West Yorkshire Christmas Markets You Cannot Miss

In recent years, Bavarian style Christmas markets have become extremely popular in the UK. One-off gifts, delicious food and mulled wine in souvenir cups… it’s no wonder we love them so much. Even if you aren’t planning on travelling to Germany this year, you’ll find all these brilliant Christmas markets in your area.

Leeds Christkindelmarkt

If you want the authentic feel of a traditional German Christmas market, this is the one for you. Leeds City Council have partnered with Frankfurt City Council to run the market every year since 2002.

Located in Millennium Square, you’ll find a whole host of stalls offering toys, clothing, jewellery, Christmas decorations and much more. If you’re hungry, sample the food stalls while taking in the scenery or book yourself in to the Alp Chalet for a traditional Bavarian meal. If you’re thirsty try the Ski Hutte or Kuh Stall. Entertainment runs on the covered stage each Sunday between 11am-1pm.

Burley-in-Wharfedale Christmas Market and Lights Switch On

This market, run by Burley and District Chamber of Trade (BADCOT) is a fantastic opportunity to try some local produce and support small businesses in the community.

Promising handcrafted items, artisan gifts and a wide range of food and drink there’s sure to be something for everyone at this market. There’s also plenty of entertainment such as magician Christ Stewart, the Ukulele Jammers, Shine school choir and children’s rides.

Make sure you stay for the lights switch on at 4.30pm. Father Christmas might even pop along for the occasion!

2^nd December, 2pm-5.30pm, Main Street and Grange Park

Haworth Christmas Market

This historical town, once home of the Brontë sisters is sure to ignite your festive flame. Over 30 stalls make up this market which is filled with produce from local traders and unique gifts. There’s a festive bar for the adults and a Winter Wonderland for the kids including face painting and donkey rides. Make a day of it and catch some live music on the bandstand or visit one of the pop up theatres on Haworth Main Street.

2^nd & 3^rd December, 9am-5pm, Central Park

Leeds Hidden Christmas Market

If you’re a fan of all things alternative you have to get yourself down to Kirkstall Abbey this December. The Brothers Grimm themed event is expected to have all kinds of merry wonderment such as cabaret performances, aerial stunts, brass band shows and karaoke. Not your typical Christmas market!

Of course, this wouldn’t be a hidden market without its surprises and the organisers have worked hard to keep some of the best bits under wraps. We do know that it’s suitable for all ages and the interactive elements will make everyone feel like a child again. Don’t forget to book your tickets here!

14^th-21^st December, 6pm-11pm, Kirkstall Abbey

Huddersfield Winter Wonderland

Advertised as ‘More than just a Christmas market’ this event is the perfect place to spend a day with the family. Take the children to visit Father Christmas in his Magical Grotto, let them take part in the Christmas games, ride a donkey or pony and join in the many other activities. After that you can enjoy the shopping, food, drinks and entertainment yourself.

9^th December, 10am-4pm, Cathedral House, St Thomas Road

Otley Victorian Christmas Fayre

The Fayre was set up in 1985 and has continued successfully ever since. You’ll be swept back in time as you wander through this market with stall holders dressed in Victorian attire and lots of entertainment throughout the day. This beautiful market town really is the perfect setting for a festive fayre!

Pop down and support local businesses as well as tasting some delicious foods and having fun with the family. Be sure to take a look inside the local independent stores too and pick up some lovely gifts for Christmas.
