How Your Home Can Help You Win Back Christmas

We are all guilty of overspending at Christmas, it is almost impossible not to. Present buying, food shopping, drink purchasing, it all adds up.

As a consequence, you may be feeling the pinch at the moment and having to endure a quiet few months to recoup some of the money you spent.

There are certain courses of action you can take involving your home that can help you make substantial financial savings quicker, such as the following:

1. Stop using the standby button

Quit being lazy and using the standby button to turn off your TV and Hi-Fi as they will continue to consume energy and cost you money. Pull the plug out from the socket or press the ‘off’ switch.

2. Update your appliances

Replace your old fridge, freezer, microwave etc. for a newer model carrying a higher energy rating. Yes, it will cost you to do this, but when you weigh up how much you’re likely to save in the long-run it is a measure worth taking.

3. Wear extra layers of clothing

Use your heating less often by wearing more clothing in the house. Put a t-shirt or two on underneath your jumper, chuck on a thicker pair of socks and at night-time change into a dressing gown or onesie.

4. Replace old windows and doors

If your energy bills are continuously expensive then the windows and doors are most probably at fault. The money you spend on the purchase of new windows and doors will seem minimal in comparison to how much money they will save you over the next 20+ years.

5. Use the timer on your boiler

Set your heating so that it only comes on when there is somebody in the house. Do the same for when you wake up in the morning as there’s no point having to in whilst snuggled in a warm and cosy bed.
