Must-See Sport To Watch In Your Conservatory This Summer
There may not be a football World Cup or European Championships this year but there is still plenty sporting action for you to enjoy this summer and where better to enjoy it than in your conservatory with your feet up and a few beers and snacks on the go.
Wimbledon
We’re only four days into Wimbledon and there have already been a huge amount of shock exits including those of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal which has paved the way clear for Andy Murray to make up for his defeat in last year’s final and finally get his hands on the famous gold trophy. Get your Union Jack’s flying and cheer on Scotland’s favourite son.
The Lions Tour
This weekend sees the Second Test of the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia. The two team’s first encounter was an exceptionally close affair with the Lions prevailing 23-21 in Brisbane. A victory in Melbourne on Saturday would see the Lions take the series; their first for 16 years since Jeremy Guscott’s famous drop-goal against South Africa in 1997.
Tour de France
Reigning Tour de France and Team Sky rider Sir Bradley Wiggins won’t be taking part due to injury but there will still be plenty of British interest in the historic event which starts on Saturday. Last year’s third-placed Chris Froome is widely expected to in with a shot of taking the overall yellow jersey, whilst Mark Cavendish competes for the green jersey.
The Ashes
Perhaps the historic event of them all; The Ashes starts in two weeks where the age-old battle between England and Australia will commence at Trent Bridge in a five-test series. England are strong favourites to retain the little red urn but only a fool would dismiss the Aussies hopes of causing an upset.
The British Open
Can Justin Rose carry forward the impetus he gained from winning The US Open to give himself a chance of lifting the claret jug? Can Rory McIlroy recapture his old form? And will Tiger Woods elbow be in any fit state to tackle 72-holes at Muirfield? All these questions will be answered from 17th July.
And once all that’s over don’t fret as the football season kicks-off in August!
