Tom & Jordan's
Grey Envisage Flush Windows & French Door
Giving a 1920’s cottage the most attentive 2020’s makeover
Conscious of the importance of retaining the traditional character of the cottage, we advocated Envisage window as a replacement window design.
The cottage has been in the hands of Tom’s family for the last 100 years, who has now taken ownership of it and shares it with his partner. His great grandparents, grandad and three younger brothers have all lived in the cottage, so he wanted to put his own mark on it.
Tom was able to supply us with photos of the cottage in the 1950’s, providing us with a great reference point for the windows. It was seeing the photos that helped us to identify Envisage flush casement windows as a perfect substitute. At Tom’s request, the windows were supplied with coloured bars, and they have monkeytail handles affixed internally, finished in grey, to further keep them faithful to the original window design.
Invitations to the cottage are often dished out as Tom likes to play host at home, which was his incentive for extending the kitchen into the garden. There’s now an amazing external view in that area of the house, achieved by adapting the kitchen window into French doors.
We needed just four hours to do it all…
Along with Tom and Jordan, two dogs and a flock of chickens also call the cottage ‘home’. You can tell that it’s the same cottage from the 1920’s, but it now has more contemporary appeal. Less noise also gets inside the cottage and thermal comfort levels have risen since the new windows were added. Tom can be extremely content with what’s he had done and we’re sure that those who formerly lived in the cottage would be proud too.
